Le foie est un grand organe charnu qui se trouve sur le côté droit du ventre. Pesant environ 3 livres, le foie est de couleur brun rougeâtre et se sent caoutchouteux au toucher. Normalement, vous ne pouvez pas ressentir le foie car il est protégé par la cage thoracique.

Le foie has two large sections called the right and the left lobes. Le gallbladder sits under the foie along with parts of the pancreas and intestines. Le foie and these organs work together to digest absorb and process food.

Le foie's main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract before passing it to the rest of the body. Le foie also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. As it does so the foie secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines. Le foie also makes proteins important for blood clotting and other functions.
